Your ask-the-readers a few weeks ago on niche job boards was super helpful, as one of the thousands of Feds who’s trying to figure out non-gov job searching for the first time in a 25-year career. Another question I’m struggling with might be a good set of polls, because I have no idea how to judge the success of my job search strategies against what is “normal.” There’s no information out there on “normal,” and I’m sure it varies widely by industry…
1. Approximately how long did your last job search take?
2. Approximately how many jobs did you apply for before landing something?
3. What would you say your rejection rate was? That is, what percent of jobs did you actually hear back from with a rejection?
4. What would you say your ghosting rate was? That is, what percent of jobs did you never hear back from?
5. How many jobs did you interview for before landing something?
6. Would you say you got an interview due to your networking efforts, being recruited, or cold-applying with a stellar cover letter and resume?
7. What sector(s) were you looking in?
Let’s throw this out to readers to offer up their own estimated stats in the comment section.
